Attending the open day
Do I have to book to attend?
Yes, you must book departmental sessions in advance – you can book up to three.
You can bring one guest to each session though you must indicate this at the time of booking due to limits on numbers.
Use our online booking system to check availability and reserve your place.
There are also lots of activities on the day that you don't need to book in advance, such as campus and accommodation tours and a large programme of general talks.
Will I receive confirmation of my booking?
Yes, when you make your booking you will see your booking barcode and a list of the sessions you have booked on your screen. You will also receive an email containing your booking reference number.
The day before the event we will email you your booking barcode again.
Please print your booking barcode and bring it with you on the day, as it is your proof of booking and you will need it to register at the Welcome Tent on the Queen's Lawn.
Can I edit my booking?
Yes. If you need to make changes to your booking, simply log back into our online booking system. To log back in you need to use the email address you used when you made the original booking and also your booking reference number – you can find this on the email confirmation you received.

Can I join the waiting list for a departmental session that is fully booked?
Yes. To join the waiting list for a session that is fully booked, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with the following details:
- your full name
- the session you would like to attend (remember to include the department and the time of the session)
- your contact mobile telephone number
If you are on the waiting list and a place becomes available, we will book you a place and send you an email confirmation so please keep checking your emails prior to the event.
The booking system only lets me book for a maximum of two people. I would like both of my parents to attend. Can I book for three people?
Both of your parents are welcome to attend the elements of the Open Day which do not require booking.
There are lots of activities that do not need to be booked in advance, for example accommodation and campus tours, tours of the gym and library, and general information talks (including accommodation, admissions, personal statements, and cost of living). Both of your parents will also be able to visit the department and support services exhibition stands in the Queen’s Tower Rooms to speak with staff and current students from the department(s) of your choice.
Unfortunately only one of your parents will be able to attend a booked department session with you. We have strict capacity limits for booked talks in lecture theatres for health and safety reasons, which is why we have to keep the maximum booking number to 2 people.
Do I need to register on the day?
If you have booked one or more departmental sessions you will need to bring your booking barcode to the Welcome Tent on the Queen's Lawn where a member of the open day team will scan it to register your attendance. You can also pick up a welcome bag at the same time.
To access a copy of your booking barcode you need to log back into our online booking system, using the email address you used to book and the booking reference number you received in your email confirmation.
You can bring a copy of the barcode on your mobile phone if you don't have a printer though paper versions do work better for the scanner.
Do I need to cancel my booking if I can't attend the event?
Yes, limits on numbers in our departmental sessions means that some sessions have a waiting list.
If your plans change and you are unable to make the open day please do log back into our online booking system to cancel your booking and free up the place for another visitor.

How long do departmental sessions last?
Departmental sessions can last up to 90 minutes each, though this varies by department and how many questions are asked at the end of each talk. Limits on numbers at each departmental session means you need to book your place in advance using our online booking system.
Each Open Day also includes a programme of general talks covering topics such as student finance, accommodation and writing a successful personal statement. There is no need to book these talks in advance as places will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. These talks last between 30 and 50 minutes.
The department sessions that I would like to attend are fully booked. Can I still attend the Open Day?
Yes – each Open Day also offers a range of activities which do not require advance booking.
- visiting our information stands and chatting to members of staff and/or students representing each department, as well as a number of our student support services
- going on an accommodation tour led by one of our current students
- visiting our Central Library
- attending a departmental drop-in session
- attending our information talks covering a wide range of topics relating to university study and life at Imperial
Do you take group bookings for schools?
No, unfortunately limits on numbers at our departmental sessions means we are unable to accommodate school bookings. However, if you are a teacher, please do encourage your students to book individually using our online booking system.
Teachers are also welcome to attend the event and there are a range of activities that do not require advance booking.
On the day
How do I get to Imperial College London?
We would advise using public transport to travel to campus, as parking in the area is extremely limited. There is no public parking on campus and parking around the campus is very expensive due to its central London location.
Our South Kensington Campus is served by three Tube lines (District, Circle and Piccadilly) as well as a range of buses.
Can I go on a campus tour?
A campus tour will form part of our accommodation tours which run throughout the day from 9.30am to 4pm.
There is no need to book for these tours in advance – simply pop along to the tour tent on the Queen's Lawn at a time that's convenient for you and join the next available tour.
All tours are led by a current Imperial student, who will be pleased to answer any questions that you might have about life at the College.
Can I bring family and friends?
Yes, you are welcome to bring visitors, but you may only bring one guest to each department session due to limits on capacities in lecture theatres.
Please remember that all department sessions must be booked in advance and you must reserve a place for your guest at the same time.
Can we tour the student accommodation?
Will there be anywhere for us to store our luggage on the day?
Yes, there is a cloakroom facility on Level 2 of the Sherfield Building.
This facility will be staffed, but please note that all luggage is left at your own risk and the College does not take responsibility for any loss or damage for belongings left here during the day.
Do you have disabled access/parking?
Yes, if you have a disability and blue badge we can arrange parking on campus – please email firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange this.
Most buildings on campus have disabled access but please email us in advance to advise us of any mobility issues so that we can check the accessibility of departmental sessions that you intend to attend.

What is there to see near campus?
Imperial's South Kensington Campus is located in the heart of London's museum district which means that you will be at the cultural and artistic heart of the city.
Exhibition Road (where our campus is located) is home to three world class museums – all within a 10-minute walk of Imperial:
Our Students’ Union sits in the shadow of the magnificent Royal Albert Hall, where all of our students also graduate.
There's plenty of green space too, including world famous Hyde Park and Kensington Gardens, right on our doorstep.
